The following types of programs are for Child Care providers who are interested in improving the quality of their services:
Texas Rising Star Providers
A Texas Rising Star (TRS) Provider is a child care provider that has an agreement with a Local Workforce Development Board’s (Board's) child care contractor to serve Texas Workforce Commission (TWC)-subsidized children and that voluntarily meets requirements that exceed the State's Minimum Child Care Licensing (CCL) Standards. TRS Certification is available to Licensed Center, and Licensed and Registered Child Care Home providers who meet the certification criteria. The TRS Provider certification system offers three levels of certification (Two-Star, Three-Star, and Four-Star) to encourage providers to attain progressively higher certification requirements leading to a Four-Star level.
Texas Kindergarten Readiness System
The Texas Kindergarten Readiness System (KRS), formerly the Texas School Readiness Certification System (SRCS), evaluates the effectiveness of prekindergarten, Head Start, and community-based licensed child care programs in preparing children for kindergarten. The KRS analyzes data from participating prekindergarten programs and from each student’s kindergarten reading diagnostic instrument administered at the beginning of the child’s kindergarten year. The analysis results in certification of prekindergarten programs that are successful in preparing students for kindergarten school entry.
Texas School Ready!™
The Children’s Learning Institute implements the Texas School Ready! project as an early education approach that serves at-risk preschool-aged children through shared resources between public and private early childhood education programs. The design of Texas School Ready! increases children’s school readiness through five evidence-driven components: research-based curriculum, technology-driven child progress monitoring, facilitated teacher professional development, ongoing teacher mentoring, and sustainability, including participation in the Texas School Readiness Certification System (SRCS).
