Leggett & Platt Named 2025 Local Employer of Excellence by Texas Workforce Commission
Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas (WSNCT) is proud to announce that Leggett & Platt, Inc. has been named the 2025 Local Employer of Excellence for the North Central Texas workforce area by the Texas Workforce Commission. The Local Employer of Excellence Award celebrates private-sector employers whose innovative efforts and partnerships with the Texas workforce system have positively impacted workers, the community, and other employers. Leggett & Platt’s spring manufacturing plant, which employs 245 skilled workers, has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to economic growth and supporting the local workforce.
One of Leggett & Platt’s standout initiatives is its Second Chance program, which provides employment opportunities to individuals recently released from prison. A notable success of the program includes a job fair held at a local jail, which led to several new hires. By offering these individuals a fresh start, the company is not only addressing workforce challenges but also making a meaningful impact on the community.
In addition to its hiring efforts, Leggett & Platt is dedicated to upskilling its workforce. Through a partnership with the Texas Workforce Commission and WSNCT, the company has secured a Texas training grant to provide ongoing education and skills enhancement for its employees. This initiative ensures that workers have access to career progression opportunities while helping the company remain competitive in the manufacturing industry.
Leggett & Platt also collaborates with Navarro College to align manufacturing curricula with industry needs. By participating in business roundtables, the company helps shape educational programs that prepare local workers for in-demand roles, creating a pipeline of skilled talent for the future.
“Leggett & Platt is honored to receive the Local Employer of Excellence Award for the North Central Texas region,” said Melissa McAskill, Human Resources Manager for Leggett & Platt’s Ennis plant. “Our partnership with Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas and the Texas Workforce Commission allows us to reach talented individuals who might otherwise be overlooked, provide meaningful training, and build a stronger, more inclusive workforce. This recognition reflects the dedication of our team members in Ennis, and we remain committed to creating opportunities that change lives while supporting the long-term success of our company and community.”
WSNCT Executive Director Phedra Redifer praised the company’s innovative and collaborative approach. “Leggett & Platt exemplifies what it means to be a true workforce partner,” Redifer said. “From utilizing On-the-Job Training to launching a Second Chance hiring initiative and collaborating with Navarro College on industry-relevant programs, they are actively helping our region meet employer demand while opening doors for workers who face significant barriers. Their leadership, compassion, and strategic use of the Texas workforce system are making North Central Texas more competitive, more inclusive, and more resilient.”
The Local Employer of Excellence Award was presented to Leggett & Platt at the 2025 Texas Workforce Commission Annual Conference, where the company was recognized alongside other outstanding employers from across the state.
